Let’s face it, if you are looking for an
affordable natural color diamond accessory, an engagement ring in my case, you
are going to end up with only three colors brown, grey and yellow and most of
us, with an exception of few different people, are going to pick Yellow over
the other.
Naturally, Yellow diamond rings sound and look better than a grey or brown
one. (Clearly, my opinion.) Colored diamonds get their color mostly because of
impurities that get lodged during the diamond’s production and yellow diamonds
get their shade because of the element Nitrogen, which is considered to be the
most common impurity. This makes yellow diamonds one of the most common color
of diamonds and one of the cheapest when choosing a color diamond. Naturally
occurring yellow diamonds are also called as canary diamonds or fancy diamonds.
People who have less funding can go for a diamond alternative like topaz or
citrine. There are lab produced versions of yellow diamonds, which are
generally much cheaper than fancy diamonds. The most popular would be cubic
zirconia, or simply CZ, which is a diamond stimulant. Cubic Zirconia will look
exactly like a diamond to the naked eye and it comes in various shapes and
sizes.
There are many famous and notable yellow
diamonds in the course of history. The most famous is the Allnatt Diamond,
which was found in South Africa’s Premiere Diamond Mine. Then comes the
Florentine, which was designed by Louis van Berquem for the Valois Family in
1467. The Kimberly Octahedron and the Yellow Tiffany were found in South Africa
in the year 1972 and 1877 respectively. In the year 1964, the Oppenheimer,
which was named in the memory of the Late Sir Earnest Oppenheimer, was found
the Dutoitspan Mine located in Kimberly, South Africa and the legendary
Briolette of India was brought by Eleanor of Aquitane to England in the 1150’s.
Yellow
diamond rings have been sported by celebrities for
some time. Singer Carrie Underwood was presented with a yellow diamond engagement
ring by Hockey star Mike Fisher. Supermodel Heidi Klum was also given the same
by her ex-husband, the singer Seal. In fact, the list of celebrities whose
fingers fashioned a yellow diamond engagement ring are actress Rebecca Romijin,
presented by actor Jerry O’Connell; heiress Paris Hilton, presented by Greek
shipping heir Paris Latsis; singer Kelly Clarkson, presented by Brandon
Blackstone; singer Rihanna, presented by fellow performer Drake; and singer
Adele (the news of this ring being an engagement ring is not confirmed.)
A diamond symbolizes power, action and
energy while the general symbolism of the color yellow would be renewal and
hope. So, yellow diamond rings are
the perfect for occasions like an engagement or marriage as it is said to bring
cheerfulness and happiness to the couple. Even-though yellow diamonds can be
purchased from online, it is better to research about the stone and the budget
before moving in for the kill. I would also advice to check for a GIA
certificate, or any type of gemology certificate, before purchasing.
